Chicane 1 Grandstand Hungaroring: Views, Seat Plan,Tickets

Alex Gassman
My guide to the Hungaroring Chicane 2 grandstand at the Hungarian F1 GP. Includes my tips on the best seats, videos of the views, seat plan.

This is my guide to the Chicane 1 grandstand at the Hungaroring. This stand used to be called Bronze 1 but it’s been renamed in the last couple of years.

This guide includes my tips for selecting the best seats in this grandstand, plus I provide videos of the view from different seats in the stand so you know what to expect. It also includes a full seating chart which shows the section names and row numbers. Plus I’ve also added my tips on how to find the cheapest tickets.

Hungaroring Chicane 1 grandstand location

The Chicane 1 grandstand is on the outside of the circuit, the left-hand side, at the Turn 6 / 7 Chicane on the Hungaroring Formula 1 circuit. It’s adjacent to Chicane 2 and directly in front of Chicane 3 which is higher up and looks over the top of this stand.

It’s directly next to entrance gate 2, but that itself is a bit of a walk from some of the main car parks. It’s also a little further away from the main fan zone that has the main stage, which is closer to the final corner, Turn 14. There is however a smaller fan zone just a short walk away the other side of Turn 9.

Use entrance gate 2 to access this stand, it’s right next to it.

Grandstand details

Cover

This grandstand has no cover. It’s open to the elements so bring protection from both the sun and the rain, and dress accordingly, depending on the forecast!

Seats

The seats are individual plastic chairs.

TV screens

There are two TV screens visible from this stand, both are on the other side of the circuit. One is at the chicane itself, the other is just a bit before the chicane.

The first image below shows the screen at the chicane. This is most easily viewable by people sat in Sectors A, B, C and D of this stand.

This next image shows the screen that is a little bit before the chicane, shortly after the exit of Turn 5. This is directly opposite sectors E and F of the grandstand (image below taken from sector B which is why it’s hard to see from here).

Hungaroring Chicane 1 grandstand tickets

This is a popular place to sit at the Hungarian Grand Prix so ticket can officially sell out quickly. However, if you still need some, I‘d recommend buying tickets through ViaGoGo.

They always have a big selection of tickets avaialbe on their site right up until race day, even if they seem to be sold out everywhere else. And if you can be patient, you might be able to find them at cheaper prices there in the days leading up to the race. That’s what I’ve done previously, and I managed to grab myself some bargain.

I buy all my F1 tickets on ViaGoGo and have done for the last few seasons, including for when I attended the Grand Prix at Silverstone, Spa and Zandvoort. My experience using them has always been great and  won’t hesitate to do so again.

Plus, for added peace of mind when I purchased my tickets, they’ve got a very good ‘FanProtect’ guarantee that made sure my tickets and money were always safe and protected.

Hungaroring Chicane 1 grandstand seating plan

Below is the seating plan for the Chicane 1 grandstand at the Hungaroring:

As the seating plan shows, the Chicane 1 grandstand at the Hungaroring is made up of 6 sections named A to F.

Section F is the closest to Turn 5, before the chicane, and section A is the furthest along the track and actually extends past the chicane.

All sections have row numbering which starts at 1 lowest down at the front, and increases the further back / higher up you go in the stand.  Sector A and B I believe are 20 rows high.

Note that in sections E and F, row 1 is at ground level, but there’s a few metres of open grass between the front row seats and the fence. Often people in row 1 will leave their seats and stand up at the fence instead.

View

In the image below you can see the areas of the track visible from Chicane 1 highlighted in green:

Predominantly, your view will be of the cars exiting Turn 5 and coming through the chicane of 6 and 7 right in front of you. You’ll then be able to see them as they head off towards Turn 8.

You might also just catch a glimpse of them between turns 4 and 5, but there’s a lot of obstacles on the inside of the track there that will probably prevent you seeing them very clearly.

The videos below show the view from different sections. Some of these are a couple of years old and were filmed when the stand was called Bronze 1 but that doesn’t matter; the current stand is exactly the same shape, size and location, and the section and row naming is the same.

This first video was filmed from Sector A, row 10, seat 22. That’s the furthest sector along the track:

This next video was filmed from Sector A row 3 seat 25, so slightly lower down than the video above:

This next video was filmed from Sector B, around row 10:

This next clip was filmed from Sector C around row 1:

This next clip was filmed from Sector C around row 15:

The next video was filmed from Sector E row 3. You can see the grassy area in front of the first row where some people will stand up against the fence:

And finally this next video was filmed from Sector F row 3:

Best seats

Looking at the videos above, you can see that when you sit in a higher row you have a better view across the track towards Turn 4 so I would try and sit in the rows 15 and above to get this higher vantage point, regardless of which sector I go for.

Then you have a choice of sector. If you go for sectors A and B you’ll be directly in front of the chicane and perfectly placed to see any action that happens there, plus you’ll have a great view of the TV screen at that point of the track. That’s what I would do.

If you go for higher sectors, like E and F, you won’t have quite as good a view of the chicane but you’ll be better located to see the cars as they go around Turn 5. The choice is yours, just always try and get a nice high row.

Is this a good place to sit?

You won’t see a huge amount of overtaking here, but if you can get a seat in a higher rower then being able to see across the track towards Turn 4 is a big advantage. That high speed uphill left hander is where Sergio Perez had a big crash a couple of years ago, and occasionally some late-lunge overtaking does take place there.

Turn 5 is also where Tsunoda crashed a couple of years ago, and fans in this stand were in prime position to see it (video below).

Of the three chicane grandstands, I think Chicane 1 is my personal favourite (if you get a high row). It gives a nice balance of seeing the chicane and the other corners at this circuit, whilst still being nice and close to the TV screens.

There’s a number of Hungarian GP parking areas near this stand as well. For some tips on how best to get to the circuit, check out my Hungary travel guide.
