Red Bull Ring Camping Guide – F1 Austria

A campsite overlooking the Red Bull Ring during the Austrian F1 Grand Prix weekend

Camping is definitely one of the best ways to experience the Austrian Grand Prix. But with more than 10 different campsites around the perimeter of the Red Bull Ring circuit, how do you choose between them?

In this guide I’ve included my recommendations for different campsites, depending on what you’re looking from from your F1 weekend.

Red Bull Ring Camping

Camping is a fantastic way to experience the Austrian Grand Prix. Most of the campsites are only a short walk from the track, so you can wake up to the sound of horsepower in the beautiful Styrian mountains. It also saves the stress of getting to and from the circuit each day, and you avoid the traffic chaos of having to park at the Red Bull Ring.

Most of the camping around the circuit will be the official Red Bull Ring campsites. These are named with colours.

There are also a few other private campsites available as well, which I’ll discuss further down the page.

Official Campsites

There are 11 diferent official campsites around the edge of the circuit. These are all within a 10 or 15 minute walk to the nearest entrance gate. Most have good WC and shower facilities with electrical hookups in some pitches, food stalls and bars. They are all a 3-night minimum stay.

The thing to remember with these is that they are all just camping pitches. You need to bring all of your own gear – tents, sleeping bags, caravans, RVs, cooking facilities etc. If you’re coming from abroad these may not be the best choices for you, and some of the unofficial campsites lower down this page might be better.

Here’s a list of the official campsites. If you click the link you’ll be taken to the campsite on Google Maps where you can browse reviews and photos of the site and its facilities:

You can see where each of these campsites is located on the circuit map below:

You can also see them on the map provided by the circuit below which gives a better idea of how far away they are from the circuit:

To make it a little clearer how near or far the different campsites are from the circuit, I’ve put them all on the Google Map below:

    Official campsite recommendations

To help you pick, here are some of my recommendations for different types of campsites:

    • Best for partying, music and atmosphere: Red, Yellow, Purple, Green, Turquoise
    • Best for a quiet night: White (they are very strict on no noise after 10 or 11pm)
    • Best in-between party and quiet: Orange
    • Best for luxury and cleanest facilities: Pink premium (also known as Pink Kneissl)
    • Best for proximity to the General Admission area: Turquoise, Pink (both are near Turn 4 / entrance E) or Blue Westschleife (near to Turn 3 / entrance D)
    • Closest to the main entrance (start / finish straight): Yellow, Purple

Where to buy official camping tickets

Red Bull Ring official camping tickets are purchased here.

    Unofficial campsites

There’s a number of other private campsites around the circuit that offer good alternatives. Some of these are better options if you’re coming from abroad as they offer pre-built camping setups, so you don’t need to bring your own camping gear.

These are also all within a short walk of the circuit. Here’s a list of some of these to check out:

    • GPTents – offers pre-built hotel tents but VERY expensive
    •  GrandPrix.Camp – offers pre-built tipis
    • EasyCamping – camping pitches only
    • RingRast Camping – camping pitches only
