Is there a dress code at the Austrian Grand Prix?

Officially there’s no dress code for F1 fans with either General Admission or grandstand tickets. If that’s you then you can wear what you like, but further down this page I’ll give you some tips on how to dress for the weather that you’re likely to experience at the Red Bull Ring circuit for the Grand Prix.

If you have VIP hospitality tickets for the Austrian GP then you should follow a smart-casual dress code. More info and examples of that below.

What to wear - F1 general admission / grandstands

Dress for the weather

As there’s no dress code for those with general admission or grandstand tickets, then you can wear whatever you like to the Formula 1 in Austria. But you should consider dressing for the weather.

The race takes place at the Red Bull Ring circuit in Spielberg, in the Styrian mountains of Austria. It’s always held in the summer, usually the last weekend of June or early July. And at that time of year it’s likely to be dry and hot. Really hot.

At last year’s race the minimum temperature was 15°C across the whole weekend. It reached 31°C on race day and there was barely a cloud in the sky for any shade.

Whilst it should be hot and dry there’s always a chance of rain in the changeable mountain environment. But there hasn’t been a fully wet race since the Red Bull Ring returned to the F1 calendar in 2014. The last time we saw any rain was for the 2023 sprint race when it was partially wet and partially dry.

So watch the forecast as the weekend approaches. But you can always expect it to be warm, even if you do get a shower.

Footwear

If you’re a general admission ticket holder then you’ll be doing a lot of walking around the circuit. Even if you’ve got grandstand tickets it’s likely you’ll have to get some steps in to get to your seat. So it’s important to wear something comfortable on your feet.

Austrian GP tickets

Still need tickets to the Austrian Grand Prix? If so, I’d recommend buying them on ViaGoGo where there are tickets available right up until race day on the Sunday.

I’ve used ViaGoGo a number of times for Formula 1 tickets over the last few seasons and have always had a great experience. I bought my tickets for the Vegas GP, Belgian, Dutch and British GP through them and managed to get them at the last minute for less than the official prices.

They also have a Fan Protect guarantee that will make sure your tickets and money are safe, which is great for peace of mind!

Austria F1 outfit examples

Here are some examples of outfits you could wear to the Austrian Grand Prix as a grandstand or general admission ticket holder. You’ll see a lot of people in F1 team merch; you can buy it at the track but it’ll be crazyily expensive. Buy it online beforehand to save yourself some money:

Austria F1 Hospitality / VIP dress code

If you’ve got tickets to the Paddock Club or any other VIP Hospitality areas at the Austrian GP, then they ask you to follow a slightly more ‘smart-casual’ dress code.

So avoid ripped jeans, flip-flops, casual sandals and full sports tracksuits. If it’s hot you can still dress appropriately by wearing shorts, or adress, but just try and make it a little smarter than your usual streetwear. You can still wear F1 team merchandise in the VIP areas.
