Monza Grandstand 12 Ascari 3 location
Grandstand 12 Ascari 3 is on the right hand side of the Monza circuit (which is the inside of the track) at the start of the Ascari chicane, which is also known as Variante Ascari.
This chicane is made up of three corners, Turns 8, 9 and 10, because it’s a left-right-left chicane. Grandstand 12 sits directly opposite the apex of Turn 8, the first part of the chicane.
The grandstand has Grandstand 13 to its left and Grandstand 14 to its right.
This grandstand isn’t that close to any of the entrances. The nearest is entrace gate B which is on the other side of the start finish straight, so you have to use the bridge over the circuit or take Tunnel 3 under the track to get to this stand. Allow at least 30 minutes to walk here from that gate.
However if you’re taking a public transport shuttle to get to the track, these drop off at Gate G. That’s a 30 to 40 minute walk.
You’re close to main F1 fanzone here which is on the outside of the track after the Ascari chicane. To get there you can walk further along the inside of the circuit and take Tunnel 5. It’s a 10 to 15 minute walk.
Grandstand details
Cover
This grandstand is not covered. You’ll be in the hot Italian sun all day so make sure you dress appropriately.
Seats
The seats are bleacher style bench seats. If you want a backrest go for the top row as there you can lean against the fence at the back.
TV screens
There’s one TV screen across the track that’s visible from here. You can see this in the videos lower down this page.
Monza Grandstand 12 Tickets
This grandstand is one of the cheapest ones at Monza for the Italian Grand Prix, so tickets can sell out fast. If so I’d recommend you buy tickets through ViaGoGo instead. There’ll be a good selection of tickets available to purchase there right up to the Grand Prix, plus you can often find them at cheaper prices.
I’ve used Viagogo to buy my Formula 1 tickets a number of times times over the last few seasons. I’ve used them to buy tickets to the British, Belgian and Dutch GPs. I’ve always had a great experience using their platform and have managed to grab tickets at lowers costs nearer the race date. I’ll happily use them for tickets again next time I go to an F1 event
They also have a good ‘FanProtect Guarantee’ which protects your money and your tickets, which has always given me extra peace of mind when buying through them.
Monza Grandstand 12 Ascari 3 seating plan
Below is the seating chart for Grandstand 12 Ascari 3 at Monza. It is a big image file, actually a little too big to put on this page. So if you enter your details in to the boxes below and press send the seating plans will be sent straight to your email inbox.
Grandstand 12 has row A lowest down at the front and Row N highest up at the back. Seat numbers start at 1 on the left hand side of the stand (if you’re standing on the track and looking at the grandstand) and increase as you go to the right.
View
This image shows the parts of the track visible from this grandstand in green:
As the image above shows, from this stand you have a perfect view of the three corners of the Ascari chicane.
To the left of this stand, you can’t look back along the track very far as the adjacent grandstand and trees block your view. You can see as far as the pedestrian bridge that crosses the circuit, which is the start of the braking zone for Turn 8.
Then to your right you can see the cars for a short distance once they exit the chicane and you’ll lose them out of sight as they head towards the Parabolica at Turn 11.
This video shows the view from Row N (back row) seat 10. As you can see, you don’t have much visibility to the left, but have a fantastic view of the screen and the cars as they go through the Ascari Variante chicane, and then for a couple of second after that. This high row is great for seeing over the safety fence.
In contrast this next video was filmed from Row C, the third row from the front. This gives a much lower vantage point making it harder to follow the cars as they go through the later parts of the chicane:
And this video shows the view from Row F seat 5, around half way up the stand but quite far to the right:
Best seats
I’d definitely go for the higher rows in the lower seat numbers. Like the first video above shows, the higher rows give you a much better, clearer vantage point to see the cars as they go through the chicane. And the lower seat numbers allow you to see the cars for longer once they exit the chicane.
I’d aim for rows K, L, M and N in seat numbers 1 to 15.
Is this a good place to sit?
You get an amazing sense of speed and downforce from the cars as they pass through this fast chicane. You might see the odd brave overtake on the brakes in to Turn 8 (which you’d be well positioned for) and might also see the odd mistake as people run wide in the middle part of the chicane.
But for a view of this part of the track I’d go for Grandstand 18 instead as that has a great view of the chicane, plus the run towards the Parabolica, and it’s covered so you get some sahde.
