Monza Grandstand 13 Ascari 4 location

Grandstand 13 Ascari 4 is on the right hand side of the Monza circuit, the inside of the track, just as the start of the Ascari chicane, also called the Variante Ascari. This left-right-left chicane is made up of turns 8, 9 and 10, and this grandstand is at the start of the chicane so is next to Turn 8.

It’s directly adjance to Grandstand 12 which is to its right, as the image below shows, and the other side of that is Grandstand 14.

This grandstand takes quite a while to get to on foot. The nearest entrance gate is Gate B, but thats on the other side of the start / finish straight, so you need to use the bridge over the circuit or Tunnel 3 to get to the stand. Allow at least 30 minutes to walk here from that entrance.

However, if you’re taking public transport shuttles, these drop off at Gate G. That’s a 30 – 40 minute walk.

You’re quite well positioned for the main F1 fanzone here which is on the outside of the track after the Ascari chicane, so you can walk further along the inside of the circuit and take Tunnel 5 to get there. It’s a 10 / 15 minute walk.

Grandstand details

Cover

This grandstand is uncovered. You’ll be in the sun all day so make sure you dress appropriately.

Seats

The seats are individual plastic chairs.

TV screens

There’s one TV screen on the other side of the track that’s easily visible from here. You can see this in the video lower down this page too.

Monza Grandstand 13 Tickets

This grandstand is one of the cheaper ones at Monza for the Italian Grand Prix, so tickets can often sell out fast. If so I’d recommend you buy tickets through ViaGoGo instead. They will have a good selection of tickets available to purchase right up to the Grand Prix, plus you can often find them at cheaper prices.

I’ve used Viagogo for buying my Formula 1 tickets a number of times times over the last few years – I’ve used them to purchase my tickets to the British, Belgian and Dutch GP. I’ve always had a great experience using them and have managed to snag tickets at lowers costs. I’ll happily use them for tickets again next time I go to an F1 race.

They also have a ‘FanProtect Guarantee’ which protects your money and your tickets. That has always given me extra peace of mind when buying through them.

Grandstand 13 has row A lowest down at the front and Row I (‘eye) highest up at the back. Seat numbers start at 1 on the left side of the stand (if you’re standing on the track looking at the grandstand) and increase as you move to the right.

View

This image shows the parts of the track visible from this grandstand in green:

As that image shows, from this grandstand you have a view of the whole Variante Ascari chicane, right from the braking zone, through the left-right-left and just out the other side.

Unfortunately directly to the left of this grandstand are a lot of trees, so your view to the left is very limited. You can see this in the satellite images above and the video below. Sitting in lower rows nearer the front will allow you to look ‘past’ the trees slightly, but even in the front row they block your view to the left.

So you should expect your view mainly to be of the cars passing directly in front of you, and then going through the Ascari chicane.

The video below was filmed from Row D seat 19 in this grandstand. So that’s the fourth row from the front, and quite close to the right hand side of the stand (as you sit in it):

As you can see, from this stand you have a fantastic view of the TV screen which is directly opposite, so it’s super easy to keep up with the action on other parts of the track.

To the left those trees block your view, and from this seat in Row D which is quite near the front you can see about as far as the bridge over the track, no further.

Then you can watch the cars snake their way through the chicane and out the other side.

Best seats

I don’t think there’s much to be gained from going for a lower row because you’ll never be able to clearly see along the straight to the left of this stands as the cars approach.

With that in mind I’d go for a higher row to try and look over the safety fence slightly, and to get a wider vantage points. I’d aim for the back row where you can stand up without blocking anyone’s view.

For seat numbers I’d go for lower seats to be closer to the chicane. Seats in the 1 –  35 range will put you in the right half of the stand and nicely opposite the TV screen.

Is this a good place to sit?

This grandstand gives you a great sense of speed and downforce from the F1 cars as you witness them snake their way through the chicane. There’s the ocassional brave overtake on the way in to the first part of this chicane, which you’d be perfectly positioned for, but they don’t happen very often.

Personally, for this part of the circuit, I’d prefer to sit in Grandstand 18 on the exit of the Ascari chicane. There you can still see all of Turns 8, 9 and 10, plus you can watch the cars head down to the Parabolica, and you have a roof to shade you from the sun.
