Monza Grandstand 18 Uscita Ascari location

Grandstand 18 Uscita Ascari is on the right hand side of the Monza circuit – the inside of the track – just after the exit of the Ascari chicane. That chicane is also known as Variante Ascari.

The Ascari chicane is made up of three corners – Turns 8, 9 and 10. Grandstand 18 sits alongside the exit kerb of Turn 10.

Adjacent to this grandstand on its left is Grandstand 16, which is uncovered.

This grandstand a bit of a walk from any of the entrance gates. The nearest gates are either A and B which are on the other side of the start / finish straight, and to get to this stand from either of those you need to take the tunnels that go under the track. Allow at least 30 minutes to walk from those gate, perhaps even more on busy race day.

Alternatively you go access it from Gate G, which is also around a 30 minute walk, but that’s also where the public transport shuttle buses drop off.

This stand is really well located for access to the main F1 fan zone, which is just the other side of the track. It’s easy to get to within 5 minutes from here using the pedestrian bridges over the straight between turns 10 and 11.

Grandstand details

Cover

This grandstand covered. It has a roof over the top, but not the sides. The roof is quite high over the front, and as the grandstand faces East those in the front few rows are likely to be in the sun shine in the morning, but the sun will move around behind the stand later in to the afternoon when everyone will be in the shade.

Seats

The seats are individual plastic chairs.

TV screens

There are two TV screens easily visible from this stand on the other side of the circuit:

Monza Grandstand 18 Tickets

Being covered this grandstand is very popular for Italian Grand Prix weekend, so tickets can sell out pretty fast. So I’d recommend you buy tickets through ViaGoGo where there will be a good selection of tickets available to buy right up until the last minute. And you can often find them at lower prices there as well.

I’ve used Viagogo for buying Formula 1 tickets numerous times over the last few seasons, including for my trips to the British, Vegas and Belgian GPs. I’ve always had a great experience using their platform and have managed to find tickets at lower prices there closer to the date of the race. I’ll happily use them for tickets again.

They also have a very strong ‘FanProtect Guarantee’ which protects your money and your tickets. That has always given me extra peace of mind when buying through them.

Grandstand 18 has row A lowest down at the front and Row M at the back highest up. Seat numbers start at 1 on the left side of the grandstand (if you’re standing on the track and looking up at the stand) and increase as you move to the right.

View

The image shows the areas of the circuit you can see from Grandstand 18 highlighted in green:

As the map above shows, from this stand you have a great view looking at the F1 cars coming towards you through the left-right-left of the Ascari chicane. However, if you’re sat in the highest rows at the highest seat numbers, some trees directly to the left of this stand will block your view of turns 8 and 9 even 10.

You’re sat right at the exit of Turn 10, and sometimes cars run wide here. If that happens it will be directly in front of you which is great. Then as you look to the right you’ll see the cars accelerate at full power down towards Turn 11. You won’t be able to see all the way down to that corner, however, as the trees and to the right will block your view.

The video below shows the view from Row H seat 160, quite a high seat number fairly far to the left in the stand. As you can see this is just about ok without having your view hindered by the trees to the left:

This next video shows the view from the Row J seat 140, slightly further to the right:

And this video was filmed from Row L (one row down from the top) also around seat 140:

Best seats

As I said above, you want to avoid the high rows in the highest seat numbers otherwise your view of the chicane will be blocked by the trees. So avoid seats 180 and above, and avoid row G and up in seats 170 and above.

Personally I’d go for seats roughly in the middle of the stand in the 100 – 140 range if I could. I’d prefer the higher rows for a wider vantage point so would aim for row G and above.

Is this a good place to sit?

Get the right seat and this is a great place to see the cars come through the high speed Ascari chicane. You won’t see much overtaking here, but you will get a real appreciation for the speed they can carry through the corners.

Plus it has a roof over the top, so it provides a much needed break from the Italian sunshine. This would be my first choice out of all of the grandstands that offer a view of the Ascari Variante chicane.
