Monza Grandstand Seconda Variante Grandstand location

The three Seconda Variante grandstands at the Italian Grand Prix circuit are based around Turns 4 and 5, where Oscar Piastri went around the outside of Lando Norris in that audacious overtake in 2024.

Here are the official names of each of these grandstands:

  • Grandstand 9 – Seconda Variante
  • Grandstand 33A – Seconda Variante 1
  • Grandstand 33B – Seconda Variante 2

The image below shows where these are located:

As the image shows, all these grandstands are on the right hand side of the Monza circuit. 33A and 33B are parallel with the track as it approaches Turn 4.

Grandstand 9, however, is after the exit of Turn 5 and looks back up the circuit. It’s also adjacent to Grandstand 10 Roggia.

These grandstand are closest to entrance gate D which is just on the outside of Turn 6. From there it’s a 10 minute walk through Tunnel 8 which goes under the track to get to these stands.

The F1 fanzone is on the outside of the track close to Turn 10. To get there from these stands it’s a long walk – over 30 minutes.

To join the infamous Monza post-race track invasion, your best bet would be to walk down towards Grandstand 6 Alta Velocita which they usually open a gate to access the track after the race.

There are a number of food and drink options and toilets nearby these stands.

Grandstand details

Cover

These grandstands are all uncovered so you’ll be in the heat o the Italian summer sun all day long. Make sure you dress appropriately for the weather.

Seats

The seats in these stands are bleacher style bench seats. No backrests unless you’re in the back row where you can lean on the seats.

TV screens

The image below shows the locations of the TV screen that are visible from each stand:

The screen for Grandstand 9 is actually quite a long way away, on the other side of the track:

Whereas the TV screen for grandstands 33A and 33B at Monza is still across the track, but  much closer to the stands:

Monza Seconda Variante Tickets

Tickets for these grandstand can sell out quickly. If that’s the case then don’t worry as you can buy tickets through ViaGoGo instead where there’ll be a good selection still available right up until the Sunday of the Italian Grand Prix weekend.

I’ve used Viagogo to purchase my Formula 1 tickets a number times over the last few F1 seasons. That includes when I went to the British GP, Belgian GP and Dutch GP. I’ve always had a great experience buying through them and will definitely be doing soagain next time I go to the F1, as I managed to get tickets slightly cheaper by waiting until nearer the race.

They also have a ‘FanProtect Guarantee’ which is a great policy that protects your money and tickets, which has always given me added peace of mind when purchasing.

Monza Grandstand 9, 33A & 33B seating plan

Below are the seating plans for grandstand 9, granstand 33A and grandstand 33B at Monza. The image files for these are big, too big in fact to host on this page. So instead, if you add your details in to the boxes below and press send they’ll be sent straight to your email inbox.

Grandstand Seconda Variante seating chart

Grandstand 9 has rows that start at A lowest down at the front and go up to L at the back. 33A and 33B isn’t as tall, and their rows go from A to G.

Seat numbers start at 1 on the left side of each grandstand (as you stand on the circuit and look up at the seats) and increase as you move to the right.

View

The image below roughly shows the parts of the circuit visible from these stands in green:

As that image shows, the view is mainly of the Turn 4 / Turn 5 chicane, and the straight that leads up to it. But the views from the stands differ, so below I’ve give examples of each.

Grandstand 9

Grandstand 9 is positioned so it’s looking directly back down the circuit, towards the straight before Turn 4. Because there’s a massive run-off area on the right side of Turn 5, this stand feels a long way from the track over by Turn 4.

That can make it a little hard to see the TV screen and the F1 cars as they come in to Turn 4. But the way the stand is positioned means they get closer to you as they exit Turn 5. You’ll lose the cars out of sight once they dissapear behind the stand to your right, unless you’re sat in seat 1, then you can turn around and watch them head towards Turn 6 for a little longer.

This video was filmed from Row I (‘eye) in grandstand 9:

And this next video was filmed from lower down in Row D:

Grandstand 33A & 33B

These two grandstands were new from 2025, and they replaced a couple of general admission viewing areas.

I haven’t had a chance to get footage from these new stands yet, so instead I’ll show you what it was liked from the GA view points that were in the same locations. As you’ll see, the view from here is quite different. The cars will come past you from left to right as they brake for the Turn 4 left hander, which you’ll have a fantastic close-up view of.

This video would be from lower seat numbers in 33A / higher seat numbers in 33B. But this was filmed from ground level so you’d be a little higher up in the new stands:

These next two videos would be from the higher seat numbers of 33A:

The one thing to be careful with are the trees either side of these grandstands. If you go for the lowest seats numbers in grandstand 33B, for example, the trees to the left of this stand (as shown on the image below) will block your view of the cars exiting Turn 5. So try and above seat numbers 1 – 25 in grandstand 33B.

Best seats

Grandstand 9 is always very popular, and if you go for it then I’d definitely recommend going for the top 3 rows for a better vantage point (Rows J, K or L).

But personally I’d rather be closer to the action at Turn 4, and closer to the TV screen. So I’d go for Grandstand 33B, specifically in Row E and above, in seats 35 to 50 to avoid those trees I mentioned above.

Is this a good place to sit?

Overtakes do happen at this chicane, as we’ve seen from the Formula 1 races in the last few years. So that’s a real positive of sitting in these Seconda Variante stands.

A downside is that these grandstands are a long way from the main F1 Fan Zone and some of the other attractions at the circuit, so you should be prepared to do some walking.
