This is my guide to the Schönberg grandstand at the Red Bull Ring.
I’ll provide a seating plan, details of the different sections of this stand and the view that you get if you sit here. Plus I’ll provide info on how to get tickets, even if they’re sold out elsewhere.

Red Bull Ring Schönberg grandstand location
*NOTE* It appears that this grandstand wasn’t used for last year’s Austrian Grand Prix, and may not be in use again this year. I’ll leave this information here anyway in case it makes a return.
The Schonberg grandstand is on the the left hand side of the circuit between turns 3 and 4. It’s in the General Admission zone and is positioned high up on a grassy bank, set back quite a way from the circuit.
It’s halfway between entrance gates D and E, but it’s a long way from the Fan Zone by Turn 1 and some of the main car parks which are closer to the start / finish straight.
In the image below you can see the grandstand perched high up at the top of the grassy hill overlooking the circuit.
Grandstand details
Cover
The grandstand is uncovered. It has no protection from the sun, and as the Austrian GP is in the summer then it can get really hot. So follow my tips on what to wear to the Spielberg GP to dress appropriately.
Seats
The seats are individual plastic chairs.
TV screens
There’s one TV screen visible from this grandstand and it’s directly across the track from this stand.
Because this grandstand is set back quite far and high from the track it can feel like it’s a bit hard to see the screen, so a good camera zoom or binoculars would help.
The image below shows the screen and how small it appears, and this was taken from the 5th row back. From the higher rows it would feel even further away.
Red Bull Ring Schönberg Grandstand Tickets
This is only a small stand and it has a great view, so tickets can sell out fast.
Even if they’re not sold out, the official Austrian GP website doesn’t let you select specific seats. So instead I’d recommend buying tickets through ViaGoGo, where they have a great selection available even if they’re sold out in other places. Plus the tickets listed there often specify exact row, section and seat numbers.
I’ve bought all my Formula 1 tickets over the last few years using ViaGoGo and will definitely do so again next time. I even used them for tickets for my trips to the British, Dutch, and Belgian Grand Prix and have always had an excellent experience.
Plus, they have a Fan Protect guarantee which makes sure your money and your tickets are protected for extra peace of mind.
Red Bull Ring Schönberg Grandstand Seating Plan
Below is the seating plan for the Schönberg grandstand at the Red Bull Ring:
As the seating chart shows the grandstand is made up of 2 different sections, A and B. A is closer to Turn 3 and B is closer to Turn 4 (but both give a very similar view).
Rows start at 1 lowest down at the front of the stand and increase the higher up / back you go.
Seat numbers increase from left to right if you stand on the track and look up at the grandstand. Seat numbering begins at 1 at the start of both sections.
View
The map below shows the parts of the circuit you can see from this grandstand highlighted green:
And as you can see, you have visibility of a lot of the circuit from here. You can see the cars once they’ve exited Turn 3 and pass directly in front of you as they brake for Turn 4 which is a prime overtaking spot.
You can then catch a glimpse of them between turns 6 and 7, plus you can see over to the far side of the circuit as they exit Turn 1.
All of this whilst having the stunning backdrop of the Styrian mountains. It’s an amazing viewpoint and one that’s quite underrated (and sometimes underpriced).
Best seats
I don’t think it matters too much where you sit in this stand as you’ll always have a fantastic view.
One thing to consider, however, is that the higher up the row then the further away from the screen you are. But a higher row does give you a higher viewing point which will allow you to see a little more of the circuit infield.
Is this a good place to sit?
The Schonberg grandstand is a great place to sit at the Austrian F1. You’ll be in prime place to see any overtaking that happens on the entry to Turn 4.
However, there is an even better option, and its the T3 grandstand. That one would be my first pick.
