Lando’s custom McLaren 765LT Spider is finally revealed to him

Lando Norris has finally taken delivery of his custom, one-off McLaren 765LT Spider supercar built for him by the exclsuive McLaren Special Operations department.

McLaren 765LT

The 765LT is one of the fastest road cars that McLaren produce. The LT in its name stands for Long Tail, signalling that this is a slightly stripped-back model that focuses on light weight, better aerodynamics and higher performance. And boy does it have some performance.

It has a 4.0 litre twin-turbocharged V8 which produces 755bhp (765PS) and 590ft lbs of torque. That’s enough to propel the supercar from 0-62mph in 2.8 seconds, 0-124mph in 7 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 205mph.

The Spider model, without the roof, is the most exclusive (and expensive) version of the 765LT. The price starts at £310,000 for a ‘base’ model. But Lando wasn’t going to settle for something anyone else could buy; he wanted more exclusivity, so turned to McLaren Special Operations (MSO) to spice his up.

MSO gives their most exclusive clients the opportunity to customise their new car’s interior and exterior colours as much as they’d like. They’re pretty much no limit to what they can do.

So Lando designed his 765LT to clearly embody himself. As he says, “this is me in a car”.

Lando went to town on the customisation. The exterior bodywork of the car is finished in a blue bare carbon effect, where the carbon weave itself is blue. The brake calipers have been finished in flourescent yellow to match his racing helmet.

Lando said that he didn’t want his LN logo to be plastered all over the car as that would be a bit too “yeah look at me”.

So instead, he has four yellow stripes, representing his racing number 4, dotted around in various positions. These include above the left headlight, on the inner door shut, on the steering wheel and even underneath the rear wing.

The interior is the only place his LN logo is present. He’s had it stitched in to the headrest of the driver’s seat, so when he’s sat in the car it will be hidden behind his head.

There’s also a plaque tucked away that reads ‘Exclusively commissioned for Lando Norris by MSO’. That signifies the exclusivety and rarity of this car. There’s only one in this spec in the world, and it’s Lando’s.

Another cool detail are the signatures on the underside of the bonnet. Lando wanted these here to commemorate the McLaren automotive team that made the design and build of Lando’s 765LT possible.

The bottom-right signature is that of Zak Brown, McLaren Racing team principal. Lando jests “this car has now gone massively down in price.”

Lando’s 765LT is left-hand drive. Norris spends most of his time living in Monaco, along with a bunch of other racing drivers. The principality is a tax-haven for the mega rich, so we can be sure Lando will be spotted driving his new McLaren around the streets of Monte Carlo at some point soon.

How much will Lando’s new car have cost? Well with the MSO customisation, to any non-F1 driver it’s likely to have been over £400,000. But I’m sure Lando would have received a hefty discount on that for his efforts as the team’s star driver.
