Is there a dress code at the Mexican Grand Prix?
Officially there’s no dress code for Formula 1 fans with grandstand tickets at the Mexican Grand Prix. If that’s you then you can wear whatever you like, but you should always be mindful of the weather, which I’ll provide more info on lower down.
If you have VIP hospitality or Paddock Club tickets for the Mexican GP then you should follow a smart casual dress code. More info on that, along with some examples, further below.
What to wear - F1 grandstand tickets
Dress for the weather
As there’s no dress code for fans with grandstand tickets then you can wear whatever you like to the F1 race at the Autodromo Hermanos Circuit. But you should consider dressing for the weather.
The circuit is in the middle of Mexico City and is usually held around October / November. And at that time of year it’s usually fairly mild, temperatures are likely to be in the low to mid twenties (Celcius). But Mexico City is very high – over 2,000 metres above sea level – so when the sun’s out it can feel very intense. There is also always a small chance of rain. likely to be dry and hot.
For last year’s race there were highs of 25 degrees Celcius and a 40% chance of rain on one of the days.
Usually, you can be in t-shirt during the day but need another layer when the sun goes down, or if you’re in the shade. So pack lightweight tops you can put on / take off as required.
Footwear
At all F1 events you end up doing a lot of walking. Mexico is no different, and you’re likely to get your steps in getting to / from the circuit using public transport as well. So make sure you wear something comfortable on your feet.
Mexican GP tickets
Still need tickets to the Mexican Grand Prix? If so you can do what I do and buy them on ViaGoGo where there are tickets available at the last minute, right up until race day on the Sunday.

Here are some examples of outfits you could wear to the Mexican Grand Prix as a grandstand ticket holder. There will be loads of people in F1 team merch. You can buy it at the track as there will be merch vendors everywhere, but it’ll be incredibly expensive there. Buy it online beforehand to save yourself some money:
Mexican GP Hospitality & VIP dress code
If you’ve got tickets to the Paddock Club or any of the VIP Hospitality areas at the Mexican Grand Prix then you are asked to follow a slightly more ‘smart-casual’ dress code.
So avoid ripped jeans, flip-flops, casual sandals or full sports tracksuits. If it’s hot you can still wear shorts or a dress, but try and make it smarter than the usual stree twear. You can wear F1 merchandise in the VIP areas, and in fact that is normally encouraged.
