Mexico GP Entrance Gates & Bag Policy

Alex Gassman
Mexican Grand Prix

There are a number of different spectator entrances gates to access the Mexican Grand Prix at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. Which gate you use will depend on which tickets you have.

Additionally, you need to know the bag policy before you go so you’re aware of what items are allowed, and which are prohibited. All of that info, and more, below.

Mexico F1 entrance gates

There are a number of different entraces gates that spectators can use to access the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez for the Mexican Grand Prix. The gate that you use will depend on which of the spectator zones you have tickets for.

Below are a list of the gates and which zones they provide access to:

  • Gate 1 – Zona Cafe (Brown Zone) and Zona Gris (Grey Zone)
  • Gate 4 – Zona Verde (Green Zone)
  • Gate 6 – Paddock Club VIP only
  • Gate 7 – Zona Verde (Green Zone)
  • Gate 8 – Zona Naranja (Orange Zone) and Zona Rosa (Pink Zone)
  • Gate 9 – Zona Azul (Blue Zone)
  • Gate 11 – Zona Azul (Blue Zone)
  • Gate 12 – Zona Azul (Blue Zone) and Zona Amarilla (Yellow Zone) and Zona Rosa (Pink Zone)
  • Gate 13 – Zona Amarilla (Yellow Zone)
  • Gate 14 – Zona Amarilla (Yellow Zone)

For more detail on which grandstands are in which zone, see my full guide to the spectator zones at the Mexican GP. As a reminder, you can only access the zones that you have tickets for.

On the circuit map below you can see the location of the entrance gates:

Queues at the gates

At peak time on Saturday and Sunday of the race weekend, there will be some small queues at the gates. But because the gates are dedicate to their specific zones, it’s never like everyone is trying to access the track through one gate.

So leave a little extra time in the mornings on the race weekend to get through the security checks.

Bag policy & prohibited items

Your bag may get searched on the way in to the circuit. Whether or not it will get searched, and how thoroughly it will be searched seems to vary depending on the staff are.

Here’s a list of items that you are allowed to bring in:

  • Baby food
  • Flags or banners related to the race, max 1 meter long
  • Battery banks
  • Binoculars
  • Sunscreen (100ml max)
  • Ziploc bags
  • Small handbags max 11x16cm
  • Backpacks max 10x15x30 cm
  • Rain boots
  • Video cameras
  • SLR Cameras, maximum of two lenses, no lens longer than 300mm
  • GoPro cameras
  • Fanny packs max 11×16 cm
  • Small strollers
  • Motorcycle helmets
  • Antibacterial gel max 100ml
  • Prescription medications
  • Small umbrellas without a point
  • Beach towels

And here are the prohibited items:

  • Aerosols
  • Weapons
  • Flags on poles
  • Bicycles, skateboards or longboards
  • Smoke grenades or flares
  • Glass bottles or cans
  • Chains
  • Cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and vapes
  • Blankets
  • Food or drinks
  • Drones
  • Lighters
  • Professional video or audio recording equipment
  • GoPro poles, selfie sticks
  • Cool boxes
  • Musical instruments
  • Pets
  • Sharp objects
  • Umbrellas with pointed tips
  • Balls or frisbees
  • Laser beams or chemical lights
  • Seat backs and cushions
  • Chairs
  • Illegal substances
  • Tents or carts
  • Tripods, monopods, reflective screens or lighting equipment

They are both very specific lists, but normally the security checks are very minimal. You’ll see people walking around with huge backpacks, vaping or smoking, with massive umbrellas. So you can take the prohibited item list with a pinch of salt.

The backpack size requirements you definitely don’t need to worry about. And I would try and sneak in a small cushion to make the grandstand seats more comfortable.

Travel

The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez is right in the middle of Mexico City and is easily reached by the Metro. Some of the gates are literally right outside Metro station exits. For more detail on getting to the circuit, check out my full Mexican GP travel guide.
