what is the Silver 3 grandstand at Spa?

The Silver 3 grandstand is part of the Silver group of grandstands available for spectators at the Belgian Grand Prix. These are slightly more affordable than the Gold grandstands as they’re usually not quite as close to the action, or offer less comfortable seating areas (usually uncovered).

Silver 3 grandstand location

The Silver 3 grandstand is on the right-hand side of the circuit at Pouhon Corner. That’s the outside of the corner but the inside of the circuit. Pouhon is also known as Double Gauche (Double Left) and as its name suggests is made up of two left hand bends that all merge in to one incredibly long, fast corner.

As the speeds here are so high there’s a big run-off area on the outside of the track before the safety fence. Plus there’s a bit of a gap from the fence to the start of the stand. That means the Silver 3 grandstand is a little way from the circuit itself, but not too far.

The grandstand is positioned in between the two left handers of Pouhon so offers great views of the whole corner. See the section further down in this article for more information on the view from here.

grandstand details

is it covered?

The Silver 3 grandstand at Spa Francorchamps is not covered. It has no roof so it’s completely open to the elements. Make sure you bring sun or rain protection, depending on the weather forecast!

seat types

The seats in this grandstand are individual seats with fixed seat backs and seat bases.

TV screens

There is one giant TV screen visible from this stand. It’s a huge screen on the opposite side of the circuit directly facing the stand and it can be seen from any seat.

Spa Francorchamps Silver 3 view

From the Silver 3 grandstand you can see the cars entering the first part of Pouhon from the end of the straight after Speed Corner. After that you’ll have the perfect view of them coming around the rest of the corner at close to 300kph before they exit on to the short straight before the left-right hander of Les Fagnes.

Depending on how far to the right in the stand you sit you may or may not be able to see them as they enter the right hander of Les Fagnes.

The image below shows the parts of the circuits that can be seen from the Silver 3 grandstand highlighted in pink.

The stand is tiered with the back rows being a lot higher than those at the front. But the stand is built on a small bank, so even the lowest rows at the front are a little higher than the track itself.

The further to the left you sit in the stand (as you look at the circuit) the more you can see of the cars as they are entering Pouhon. The further to the right you sit, the clearer your view of the cars as they go around the right-hander of Les Fagnes.

The video below was filmed from further to the left in the Silver 3 grandstand. This location has a good view of the entry of Pouhon but doesn’t have a clear view of the run towards Les Fagnes,

This next video was filmed from further to the right in the grandstand. The view of the cars entering Pouhon isn’t so good but you have a full view of the run to and through Les Fagnes.

buying tickets for Silver 3 at Spa Francorchamps

Tickets for the Silver 3 grandstand at Spa can be purchased through the official Spa Grand Prix Website. Prices for a seat in this grandstand for the 2023 Belgian Grand Prix started at 360 Euros.

Purchasing a seat in the Silver 3 grandstand gets you full access to all of the Bronze general admission areas around the circuit, plus gives you a reserved seat in this stand for the whole weekend. It doesn’t give you access to any other grandstands.

picking seats for the Belgian Grand Prix

Unfortunately you can’t choose your individual seats in this grandstand or any other grandstand at Spa Francorchamps. Those only exception to that is the Max Verstappen grandstand where you can buy specific seat tickets through a separate website. The Verstappen stand is the next grandstand along the track from Silver 3 and it sits parallel to the straight between the exit of Pouhon and Les Fagnes.

Whilst you can’t choose specific seats in Silver 3, there is a Notes box at the bottom of the purchasing page on the Spa Grand Prix website. In this box you can request to sit in a specific section of the stand. There’s no guarantee your request will be granted, but it’s worth a shot!

If I was buying tickets for the Silver 3 Spa Francorchamps grandstand I’d request seats towards the back of the stand, to have the highest vantage point, and on the right hand side to get the best view of the cars as they go through Les Fagnes.

is the Silver 3 grandstand a good place to sit at Spa?

Pouhon is the fastest corner on the Spa Francorchamps circuit. F1 cars enter it at over 300kph and take it almost full flat out, only lifting off the throttle a tiny amount. They never drop below 280kph through the whole corner.

Sitting here is a great place to get an appreciation of the speed, downforce and performance of the F1 cars. Seeing them glued to the ground throughout the corner is an impressive sight. If any of the cars get it wrong here then they’ll be going off the track at seriously high speed.

Purchasing a seat in the Silver 3 grandstand gives you a really nice elevated viewpoint to see the whole corner. But if you don’t want to spend over 350 Euros on a seat ticket in the stand with no weather protection, there’s another option.

On the right hand side of the circuit at the entry to Pouhon is one of the most popular Bronze general admission viewing areas. It’s on a huge bank so provides a nice vantage point to watch the cars enter Pouhon. You have to bring your own chairs or sit on the ground and scramble for a good spot on race day, but a Bronze weekend ticket is half the price of the Silver 3 tickets at 185 Euros.

Below is an example of the view from this general admission area.

nearest parking area

Being on the inside of the circuit any of the parking options will involve a bit of a walk to get to Pouhon and the Silvere 3 grandstand.

One option is the Green parking area near Les Combes, the other is the Red parking area near Curve Paul Frere. Both involve using tunnels to go under the circuit and get to the infield.

Tickets for the parking can be purchased directly through the Spa Grand Prix website.
