Location at the Monaco Grand Prix

Grandstand K, also referred to as Tribune K, is located in the middle of the Monaco circuit, facing towards the marina full of multi-million dollar superyachts.

You’ll have an amazing view spying on the rich and famous partying on their teak decks, literally a stone’s throw away.

The stand is actually on the right-hand side of the track as it’s driven, and is facing downwards in the map below.

It overlooks the circuit between turns 12 and 13, Tabac and Louis Chiron. It’s also facing towards the Monte Carlo marina fully of million-dollar super yachts.

Grandstand K Tickets

This is one of the most popular grandstands at the Monaco Grand Prix, so tickets for it often sell out fast on the official website. If that’s the case then I’d recommend you book grandstand tickets through ViaGoGo, where there’ll be a good selection for sale even when they’re sold out elsewhere.

Plus, you might be able to find them cheaper than the original list price on there as you get nearer to the event and people just want to sell them for whatever they can get for them.

I’ve used ViaGoGo for motorsport tickets a number of times over the last few seasons, including when I went to the Las Vegas GP last year, and have always had great experiences with them. I’ll definitely be using them to grab my next F1 tickets this year.

They do also have a ‘Fan Protect Guarantee’ which keeps your money and tickets safe, for extra peace of mind.

Grandstand details

Cover

There’s no cover over this stand. It’s completely exposed to the elements, so make sure you’re prepared to face whatever the Monte Carlo weather has for you in late May / early June.

If you sit in sections K1 – K3 you’re likely to get a little bit of shade in the later afternoon as the sun gets blocked by some of the buildings near the stand. But sections K4 – K6 will always be fully unshaded.

Seats

There are normal and gold seats available in Monaco Grandstand K. A normal seat gives you a reserved space on a plastic bench. A gold seat ticket is only for the top few rows (see the seating plan further down for specific rows of each section), and gets you an individual plastic base seat with a little more room between you and your neighbour.

TV screens

There are two TV screens visible from different parts of this stand.

Grandstand K TV screens

The first is on the other side of the circuit at Turn 13, the left-hander directly after the drivers pass this stand. This can be seen from sections K3 – K6 inclusive. You won’t be able to see it from K1 or K2.

TV screen Turn 13 Monte Carlo

The other screen is further away, back by the exit of the chicane at Turn 11. It’s above the trees and on top of the building on the left hand side of the track as you look at it.

This one’s mainly visible by those in sections K1 – K3, but it’s quite far away and you won’t be able to read any of the text on it unless you bring binoculars.

Seating plan & section layout

This stand is made up of 6 different sections, named K1 to K6. K1 is the closest to Turn 12, Tabac, and K6 is the closest to the Turn 13 / 14 chicane of Louis Chiron and Piscine.

Seat numbers start from 1 on the right hand side of each section (as you stand on the track and look up at the stand) and increase as you move to the left. Rows are named with letters. A is the front row lowest down, and when they pass Z they go ZA, ZB, ZC etc nearer the top.

Some sections have a few of the gold rows at the top, some don’t. Here’s the full seating plan for the K grandstand at the Monaco GP:

The gold rows of each section are as follows:

  • K1 – Row S and up
  • K2 – Row Y and up
  • K3 – Row ZA and up
  • K4 – No gold
  • K5 – No gold
  • K6 – Row ZC and up

Views from the grandstand

Which section of the stand you sit in determines how much of the circuit you can see. If you sit in the higher section numbers your view will be limited to the part of the track between turns 12 and 13, and the entrance to turn 13.

If you sit in section K1, however, you can see all the way down to the Nouvelle Chicane at turns 10 and 11. You might even just sneak a glimpse of the cars as they exit the tunnel.

The image below shows the areas of the circuit visible from different parts of this stand highlighted in pink.

Now my top tip is to try and get a seat in the top row. If you bag a spot in the top of section K6, you can actually turn around and see the start / finish line behind you, through some trees. If you’re in the top of K1 or K2 you can turn around and just about see a glimpse of the first corner.

And if you’re in the top row of Z3 you’ll see some of the main straight, like in the clip below filmed from row ZD (top row) of section K3.

Here’s some example views from all other sections.

The video below was filmed from section K1, row L, seat 50. It shows how you can see more of the drivers coming down the straight towards the stand. But as this is seat 50, this is on the right-hand side of this section. A lower seat number would give you an even better view.

This next one was filmed from section K2, somewhere around row P. Because it’s a fairly high row you can just about see over the yachts to get a view of the cars approaching Turn 12. But if you were in a lower row, you’d have to wait for them to round the corner to come in to sight.

This next clip was filmed from section K3, row M, seat 50. If you get in the mid to higher rows of K3 and in the higher seat numbers, you’re perfectly placed to have the best view of the racers going through the turn 13 – 14 chicane, as you can see at 12 seconds in the vid.

As a contrast, the next shot shows the view from K3, row C, seat 43 from 25 seconds onwards.

This lower row shows that you have a much more restricted view, can’t see the chicane so well and are limited to just seeing the drivers buzz past you quickly. But you are much closer to the action.

The 360 degree image below was taken from section K3, row ZD seat 58. Pan the image all the way around and you can again see that from this top row you can catch a glimpse of the start / finish straight behind you.

This next clip shows the view from section K4, somewhere around row N seat 45.

This clip shows the view from section K5, row N, seat 10. Great view of the TV screen and closer to the turn 13 – 14 chicane.

And this one is filmed from section K6, row W, seat 48. Almost as far to the right as you can get when you’re looking at the track. Gives a real sense of speed.

Best seats

The ultimate seat to select in the K grandstand is in row ZD (top row) of section K1, seat numbers in the 15 – 30 range. That’ll give you a view all the way down towards the exit of the tunnel and the Nouvelle Chicane. Plus if you get top row, you can turn around and see Turn 1 as well. The only downside is you won’t have a TV quite so near.

If you can’t get those then I’d always suggest going for the highest rows possible, to get a higher viewpoint and stand a good chance of seeing over the yachts.

Sections K5 and K6 would be my least favourite, but high seat numbers of K3 and low seat numbers of K4 will give you a nice view of the high-speed chicane at turns 13 and 14.
